yes, i do radio and i like to use jay-z’s "encore" instrumental, produced by kanye west… or you can use mos def’s "oh no" instrumental. they are both good picks in my opinion

This may not be what you want to hear. From a programming standpoint I don’t think it’s a good idea to have a musical background behind you if you are doing a traditional talk show with current subjects, guests and callers. The music gets in the way of the talk and the talk gets in the way of the music. That’s why DJs usually don’t talk over the vocal parts of the songs they play.

There are exceptions. There was a famous program that could be heard in many parts of the US and other countries (monster signal station – night time show) called "Beaker Street." It was one of the first alternative album shows in th US and the jock used BG music between songs under his rap. The BG music was always instrumental, always low key, medium to slow tempo and very low volume.

If that’s you situation, look for solo guitar jazz/alternative or piano works that won’t overwhelm the talk, or check your favorite search engine for:

    free background music

There’s actually quite a bit of free stuff available. Good luck.

Most don’t use music under the show itself, but use it as what we call bumper music, basically music coming back into the show or leaving the show, and many times it’s music that either the talk show host loves or fits the topic of discussion

For instance if I was a very deep liberitarian and with a love of rock doing a talk show, I’d probably run material that would speak against the establishment such as the Megadeth "Anarchy in the U.K." which actually has wording suggesting the US instead in relation to the current heated discussions at town hall meetings in the US
